Meet Jose Delgado

Jose is a public affairs leader with over 15 years of Government, Non-profit and Private sector experience.

 

Born and raised in the city of Springfield by a single mother, Jose is a product of its public school system and a first-generation college graduate.

He grew up in the North End, has lived in the Indian Orchard, and Forest Park neighborhoods.  Jose achieved the dream of owning a home in Atwater Park, where he currently resides with his wife Danielle, an educator in the city, and their two children.

 

Upon graduating from Westfield State University, during the Great Recession, Jose enrolled in Americorps VISTA, where his commitment to public service began.

 

I’m running for City Council because you deserve an effective leader, with experience in the private sector, who is ready to serve on day one. I’m not about divisive, partisan politics. I’m about bringing people together, and getting things done.

A THRIVING CAREER

Currently, he works at the Executive Office of Public Safety & Security under the Healey Administration. Prior to this role, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff of Access & Opportunity for Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker. In this role, Jose managed the administration’s efforts on diversity, equity and inclusion focusing on workforce, contracting opportunities and development projects. Delgado started and chaired the ARPA Federal Funds Equity & Accountability Review Panel and served on the Holyoke Soldiers Home Access, Inclusion & Diversity Committee.

 

Jose previously served as the Director of Government Affairs at MGM Springfield. In this capacity, he was responsible for managing the property’s state & local government relations, community engagement, host community agreements among other responsibilities. A key member of the opening team at Massachusetts’ first Resort style Casino, Jose assisted with the mass hiring of 3,000 employees, Red Sox Winter Weekend planning efforts and led the Communication efforts for the property during the pandemic shutdown and reopening.  

 

Delgado previously served as a Mayoral Aide for Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno at a time when the city was overcoming several challenges including a financial crisis, rare EF3 Tornado and a major downtown gas explosion. Jose chaired the Buy Springfield Now Program that educated 300 first-time homebuyers and was a liasion to several neighborhood councils. 

 

Delgado has years of community involvement having volunteered on many boards including the Board of Trustees at Holyoke Community College, Springfield Regional Chamber Legislative Steering Committee, Young Professional Society of Greater Springfield, Founding Board Member of Suit Up Springfield, and Vice Chair of the Springfield Puerto Rican Parade Committee. In 2014, Delgado was recognized as a member of BusinessWest’s 40 Under Forty, Class of 2014.
